Chicago c’est bien, mais parfois on a bien envie d’une petite échappée moins urbaine.  Indiana Dunes qui se situe à une quarantaine de minute du centre-ville est parfait pour se changer les idées.  Donc c’est décidé, j’emmène la petite famille aux Dunes! Le temps d’organiser les chiens, la grand-mère,  le mari et la pitchounette*, il est 11h du matin et nous voilà aux Dunes.   Après une belle promenade sur la plage dotée d’une vue voilée mais magique sur Chicago, nous commençons tous à avoir faim. Je peux paraître snob ou simplement française :), mais j’avoue ne pas avoir trop eu confiance à ce que j’allais trouver aux  alentours pour nourrir la petite famille affamée.

Ainsi, nous choisissons au hasard un  truckstop, Bartlett’s sur l’autoroute 12. Quelle surprise, ce bouge qui ne paie pas de mine se révèle franchement bon et cache une véritable cuisine fraîchement préparée.  A l’intérieur,  un menu très américain avec gâteaux de crabe, nachos au chorizo, beignets, sandwich au porc, salade César, huîtres Rockefeller, puis des plats de style européen comme les calamars sautés, spaghettis carbonara, moules, gnocchi, etc…

Nous décidons d’essayer  les huîtres Rockefeller et c’est fantastique!! Épinards frais, crémeux mais pas lourd. Suivra un fish and chips et spaghetti primavera (le plat du jour). Bien que les pâtes soient un peu trop huileuses à mon goût,  elles sont al dente et les légumes sont très bons. Les restaurateurs Nicole Bissonette et Gary Sanders ont d’autres établissements dans la région.  Nicole a été formée en France à l’école du Cordon Bleu et ça se sent 🙂
